- Gradual Growth: Growth is usually gradual and scaled based on demand and resources. Expansion is often organic and regionally focused.
- Self-Funding and Profit-Oriented: They are typically self-funded or rely on small loans and are driven by the goal of generating immediate profits to sustain and grow and own the business for generations to come.
- Personal Service and Customer Relationships: Emphasis is placed on personal service and developing long-term relationships with customers. The business often reflects the owner’s personal expertise and interests.
