Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies (CALMIT) – Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) – University of Nebraska Lincoln
About
The Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies (CALMIT) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a renowned institution specializing in remote sensing and spatial technologies for natural resource and agricultural management. Founded in 1972, CALMIT has over four decades of experience in advancing scientific understanding through remote sensing applications. The center’s expertise spans various areas, including plant productivity, drought monitoring, ecological biodiversity, soil moisture, climate-land interactions, and land use characterization.
CALMIT collaborates with national and international partners, including universities, government agencies, and NGOs, while also offering educational programs in spatial methods. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, such as the CALMIT Spec Lab for hyperspectral remote sensing, field equipment for close-range observations, and a specially outfitted airplane for airborne imaging. These resources enable CALMIT to conduct research across multiple scales, from individual plants to large regional landscapes, addressing critical issues like food security, water scarcity, climate variability, and ecological biodiversity.
