Central City is proud to be Nebraska’s First (2000) and Only 2-Time (2019) Nebraska Governor’s Showcase Community. The Only Community to have ever won the prestigious award twice, AND the third to achieve the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s title of Leadership Community.  These designations recognize communities that have demonstrated an exceptional capacity to identify development goals and strategies; take advantage of technology to meet objectives; institute solid planning and implementation processes; combined local, state, and federal resources to achieve those goals; and accomplished positive impact projects over a long term.  

A qualifying business shall mean any corporation, partnership, limited liability company or sole proprietorship which derives its principal source of income from any of the state legislative requirements.  A qualifying business need not be located within the territorial boundaries of the city if there is a clear economic benefit to the city.

To be considered for direct financial assistance under the program, an applicant must provide the following:

  1. A detailed description of the proposed project;

  2. A business plan, including employment and financial projections; current financial statements, financing requirements for the project, total project cost;

  3. A completed City of Central City Local Option Municipal Economic Development Program Application for Financial Assistance.

The city may receive information about the business which is confidential.  State law authorizes cities and other public entities to maintain the confidentiality of business records which come into their possession. 

Eligible activities under the economic development program include, but are not limited to:

  1. Job credits for full-time jobs created to include grants subject to job credit performance.

  2. Technical, marketing and engineering assistance; management counseling, financial packages preparation assistance.

  3. Expenses for locating a qualifying business into the area.

  4. Equity investment or loan guarantees in a qualifying business.

  5. The authority to issue bonds pursuant to the act.

  6. Grants or agreements for job training.

  7. Small business development including expansion of existing businesses
