Food Processing Center – Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) – University of Nebraska Lincoln

Food Processing Center is a multi-disciplinary resource for the food industry, providing a combination of consulting, educational, technical, and business development services. The Center provides a wide range of customizable services, all delivered in a confidential, price-competitive, and timely manner.

About

The Food Processing Center (FPC) serves as a major food processing and applied research hub because it integrates applied research with state-of-the-art pilot plants, laboratory services, a team of product developers, and a team that supports food entrepreneurship.

Established in 1983, the FPC is a multi-disciplinary resource which offers both technical and business development services under one roof. This combination is rare in the food industry, which enables the staff to meet the needs of diverse clients including manufacturers, entrepreneurs, suppliers, distributors, associations, retailers, and food service providers.

When a project requires specialized expertise, the staff members interact with the University of Nebraska’s Food Science and Technology faculty as well as other University departments. The role of the FPC is to enhance value throughout the process, from idea through ongoing market support. Staff members at the FPC accomplish this by providing a wide variety of customized services, all delivered in a confidential, price-competitive and timely manner.

FPC staff members are equipped to work with products in every major food group including grains and oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat, and poultry. Depending on a client’s needs, the FPC can provide a stand-alone service or a fully integrated package of technical and business development support.

The FPC offers this unique combination of technical and business development services to accurately reflect the nature of the food industry. Food is both a science and a business, and the FPC staff understands the dynamic relationship of these two different, yet interconnected worlds. Also understood is the ever-changing challenges of the food industry, and continual demand to  add innovative services to meet client needs.
